I was just looking at your website and the competition you are running about an underdog story really got me. I heard a great story recently about a friend of mine who is living in one of the main cities on the east coast of Australia so I thought I would let you in on it.
He is only a young guy in his 20’s and he was walking along the street when a very- very attractive young lady crossed the footpath in front of him and entered a club. My friend just kept walking for a while but the vision of this beautiful girl just kept coming back to mind, he could think of nothing else. He had walked about a kilometre toward where his car was parked but all of a sudden he found himself turning around and returning along the same route.
He was a driven man; no doubt this beauty had entranced him. At first he found it difficult to find the exact place where he had seen her but then he spotted the club and in he went. The club was a reasonably darkened place but in the dim light he noticed a bar and a dance floor. He strode up to the bar, ordered a schooner and sat on a bar stool. As he gazed about his eyes adjusted to the light he made out a dance floor with a couple of girls dancing. He did not recognise anyone in the bar nor on the dance floor, what could have happened to her? He was at the point of finishing the beer and deciding that the girl must have left the place before my friend had arrived. The lights brightened a bit and the two dancers exited the stage and this blonde beauty slowly moved across stage and began to dance, it was her! The girl he had seen in the street – wow! His eyes fixed upon her – instantly in love – this was the one for him! He sensed that this was not the time to make a move so he left the club and returned home to devise a plan.
During the night he came up with the plan, he would try to get a job in security as a bouncer in the club. He had a little experience and was in good shape so he believed he could bluff his way in. He had a plan. The next day he spruced himself up a bit and landed on the door of the club late in the afternoon. To his surprise one of the bouncers had just left and the club owners did not ask many questions and jumped at the idea of getting a new security guy so quickly.
He started the next evening and settled into the job easily bluffing thru a few quiet nights. The hard part was trying to pretend he was not interested in the cute little dancer that had caught his eye. The charade went on for a number of weeks until she began to look at him. The ignoring strategy was paying off. After another week he pretended to condescend and agreed to have a coffee the next morning. Things were hotting up fast but he controlled himself and seemed to be vaguely interested while deep down inside his heart was almost pounding out of his chest. One thing led to another and after only 3 weeks they were an item. I won’t go into detail but the club owners sussed onto my mates plot realising that he and the beautiful dancer were an item and they also realised that he had a few holes in his bouncer identity.
The club sacked him but you know how every underdog always rises up when the chips are down, well he left the club but took the dancer with him. The only reason he went in was the lovely dancer, he got her just in time and found himself a real job and kept the dancer. How’s that for an underdog story.
